Audit price depends on the question, evidence required, number of markets or channels, interviews and depth of handover. Compare the fee with the decisions the audit can change, then request a fixed scope and clear exclusions.

Price the decision, not the page count
A founder may need to decide whether to keep an agency, choose a new customer segment or hire a senior marketer. Those decisions have different evidence requirements. A site scan can be brief. A diagnosis spanning customer interviews, sales records, product use and channel economics takes more work. Ask the provider to state the question their fee will answer.
Do not use report length as a proxy for value. Twenty screenshots of ad settings can be less useful than one finding that changes the budget allocation. Equally, a cheap audit that ignores the buying process may miss the expensive problem.
Identify the scope drivers
Count the customer segments, markets and channels to be reviewed. Ask how many interviews and deals are included, whether the provider will verify data quality, who will conduct the analysis and whether a working session with the team is part of delivery. If reporting definitions are inconsistent, cleaning them can become a project on its own.
Specify exclusions. Will the provider implement fixes, rewrite pages or brief agencies? Usually those are separate from diagnosis. Request a fixed fee or a clear change process when the original question expands. The marketing audit services guide describes the minimum useful output.
Compare three audit shapes
A channel check asks whether one activity is configured and performing as intended. A commercial diagnostic asks whether the audience, message, offer, channels and sales path fit together. A full operating review may add team structure, budget, measurement and implementation planning. Pick the smallest shape that can answer the current decision. Paying for a broad review is unnecessary if you know the exact channel issue; buying a narrow check is risky when the cause is unknown.
First 10's Diagnostic is a fixed, two-week project for the second shape. Its scope should be discussed against your specific problem before quoting; the fee should include a written conclusion and working discussion, with implementation capacity considered separately.
Define value without promising a return
Ask what the founder will do differently after the audit. Could it prevent another quarter of spending on the wrong segment? Clarify a hire? Stop a weak channel? These are plausible decision benefits, not guaranteed revenue. Agree the immediate review point and the evidence needed to act.
Mohit's relevant experience: He managed an annual marketing budget at AjnaLens and ran Data Sutram's B2B brand work with much leaner resources. First 10 approaches audit cost with both perspectives: the analysis must be sufficient to support a decision and proportionate to the company's stage. Read the work history and Data Sutram case for context.
Apply this to your business
Write the business decision the audit will change. Remove activities from the scope that cannot inform it, and price any follow-on implementation separately.
Frequently asked questions
Is a free marketing audit enough?
A free automated scan may find technical issues. It will rarely include customer interviews, deal analysis, competing explanations and a prioritized operating plan.
Why do two audit quotes differ so much?
They may include different interviews, markets, channels, data cleanup, senior analysis and implementation workshops. Compare the work and deliverables line by line rather than the headline price.
Need a fixed audit scope?
Share the growth decision you need to make and the evidence you already have. Mohit can explain the scope, fee and output before any engagement begins.
